The BEST ‘Annabelle’ But! A Properly-Wanted Installment
I have been a big fan of The Conjuring Universe ever since it birthed in 2013 with James Wan’s very first masterpiece. Three years later he gave us The Conjuring 2, which in my view was just as nice – if not higher – than the first! Apart from The Conjuring movies, the collection expanded into a “universe” with numerous spin-offs. First there was Annabelle (2014), which was decent but not nice, then Annabelle Creation (2017) which was EXCELLENT, then there was The Nun (2018) which was fairly okay, however may’ve been better. Now for Annabelle Comes Home. The whole lot about this latest installment is sensible (the plot, setting, ambiance, actors, characters, route, and the creative, non-repetitive scares). The idea of Annabelle the doll unleashing evil in The Warrens’ artifact room is an excellent concept, and the movie did an exquisite job delivering that concept. I personally visited The Warrens Occult Museum just a few years ago and I thought to myself, “What if all these creepy artifacts got here to life one night time?” It was a notion at the back of my head. I never dreamt it could turn into real movie! Anyway, I must say – this film had me on the edge of my seat. Not only was it suspenseful, creepy, eerie, darkish, and twisted; it introduced me and the franchise to new, sinister demons! The Bride demon scared me the most. She reminded me of Valak from The Nun, however in a marriage dress. Gary Dauberman actually did a superb job for his directorial debut and he did an amazing job with the “jump scare” restraints. He added lots of rigidity and build up when it came to the scary parts. He didn’t resort to low cost, uninspired jump scares nor did he need to rely on them to make this movie efficient! I additionally liked the looks of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, which was the “cherry on the top” of an incredible horror film. Even when their appearances had been limited, their characters are nonetheless as strong as ever and their chemistry continues to shine. Overall, I actually enjoyed Annabelle Comes House and I think it is THE BEST installment in the ‘Annabelle’ trilogy. The appearing was great, the setting and atmosphere was good, the characters had been very likable, the scares have been very original and inventive, it had its unhappy and emotional moments, the varied demons were completely creepy and had their own traits, and it was filled with suspense and dread. I especially love how they dedicated the film to Lorraine Warren throughout the finish credits, who sadly handed away again in April. It’s a true disgrace she did not get to see this fascinating installment in a film series that would not exist if it hadn’t been for her and Ed. Annabelle Comes Home was a nicely-needed installment in The Conjuring Universe and I highly suggest it. It is very different from the others. I give it a ten/10 and 5 stars!
